![]() ![]() ![]() Set in an anachronistic and fantastical prehistoric world, the series’ plot surrounds the survival and bond between a Neanderthal male named Spear and a female Tyrannosaurus rex named Fang as they struggle day-to-day and battle against various carnivorous dinosaurs, prehistoric mammals and other dangerous animals, along with more advanced groups of Homo sapiens that also live in their world, including Viking-like Iron Age humans. The show has won three Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation Juried Awards from the Emmy for Storyboard Artist (Genndy Tartakovsky), Art Director (Scott Wills), and Character Designer ( Stephen DeStefano). Primal has received widespread critical acclaim, with much praise for its animation, storytelling, music, emotional depth, horror elements, and editing. In June 2023, the series was renewed for a 10-episode third season. Following the second season finale and conclusion of Spear and Fang's storyline, Tartakovsky confirmed that Primal would become an anthology series from its forthcoming third season onward. In August 2020, the series was renewed for a 10-episode second season, which premiered July 22 and concluded September 16, 2022. The second half of the season premiered one episode April 1, 2020, with the remaining episodes premiering weekly for the five weeks following October 4, 2020. The series premiered on Adult Swim on October 8th, 2019, with the remaining episodes releasing daily that same week. The first 10-episode season of Primal was split into two 5-episode parts. The series has no dialogue throughout its first season, before incorporating minimal dialogue in the second season, in line with Tartakovsky's previous work. The first 2 seasons revolve around the journey of Spear (Aaron LaPlante), a Neanderthal, and Fang, an uniquely intelligent female Tyrannosaurus rex, both of whom lose their families early-on and decide to join forces to survive their unforgiving environment together, eventually discovering developed civilizations that they end up in conflict with. Primal is set in an anachronistic vision of prehistory, portraying extinct dinosaurs, Ice Age mammals, and early hominids all coexisting with post-metallurgy Homo sapiens in a single time period, incorporating many elements of science fiction, fantasy, horror, action, and adventure. It is the first combined action/sci-fi/horror animated series from Cartoon Network Studios and Williams Street. It'd surely be better if more advanced animation techniques were used though.Primal (also known as Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal) is an American adult animated action horror television series created and directed by Genndy Tartakovsky for Cartoon Network's night-time programming block, Adult Swim. All in all,"The adventures of T-Rex" is,if anything else interesting. The plot is original, and the mixture of dinosaurs acting like humans,sci-fi gizmos and the '30's theme is surprisingly fresh. I was surprised to find out that it was first aired in 1995 though, since it's animation seems like it's out of the 80's.THe movement of the characters is a bit unnatural, and the voices are "too" cartoonish.Nevertheless, the other aspects of the animation are actually pretty good, with nice colours and a normal tempo unlike other shows of its time. ![]() However, the show isn't only about violent clashes between law upholders and thugs there are several witty remarks throughout each episode and some classic cartoon gags, like hearts popping out of one's chest and characters that walk around flat after being thrown at a wall. ![]() Another important element of "the adventures of T-Rex" is also the hi-tech weaponry of all characters, good and evil. There seem to be ice-ray guns, and armors that can repel fire. Most of the story lines evolve about confortations between T-Rex and The Evil Corporation. The Evil Corporation are (dinosaur of course!) gangsters, and as you may already have guessed, moves in evil and criminal ways. They aren't vigilantes, the police and the federals call for the help whenever they're needed to save the city. They switch between their crime-fighting and performing personas by touching a magic crystal. All the members of the T-rex squad have dual identities crime busters when the duty calls, and jazz performers the rest of the time. The main characters are seven dinosaurs who, as a group with the code name T-Rex, fight crime. The live in Dino City, which if you ignore the fact that all people are replaced by dinosaurs, is similar with any American city portrayed in a gangster themed movie.Filled with classic cars and many jazz clubs. ![]()
